About the Artist
Artwork by Stacy A. Dockery
Stacy Dockery was born and raised on New York's, Long Island. There she took extra-curricular art classes painting with oils, following in the footsteps of her maternal grandfather, who also painted in oils. Her father and mother always encouraged her. Painting with oils is her favored medium though she has found that pastels on paper have similar attributes (working with and blending pigments) as painting with oils. Educated in graphic design and composition, she creates paintings in oils and pastel illustration.
When Stacy depicts landscapes or natural settings, she is transported into that world; a landscape or habitat. The natural world is Stacy's inspiration, on site within her own yard, personal photos she and some friends have taken. She finds the benefits of drawing nature with pastels is being able to get up close detail of her subject. This gives her an opportunity to research and understand that particular species, and any variations; giving her a greater appreciation of nature which she wants to share.
In 2o13, Stacy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, effecting her natural right side functionality. Artwork completed 2013 or later are created completely left handed. Despite this she continues to paint left-handed. Proving to herself and others that having a disability should not stop you from moving past your diagnosis.
Currently Stacy is working and creating more works from her home studio. Seeking and preparing to show her art work locally. Click the events tab and sign up for her quaterly Newsletter !
